Teen attempted to steal a plane to catch rap concert

One 19-year-old was so determined to see a rapper in concert that he attempted to steal a plane. Yeah, you read that right.

Zemarcuis Scott from Arkansas pleaded guilty to attempting to steal a commercial plane. He wanted to fly to Chicago to attend a Famous Dex concert. He was sentenced to five years of probation on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Scott was found on July 4 in an American Eagle jet at Texarkana Regional Airport. He was in the cockpit — mind you, he has no training as a pilot. He wanted to see an out of state concert and needed a ride. Seems simple enough.

According to Scott, he had been thinking about taking a plane for about a month. He was watching the plane since 10 p.m. that night and threw his bike in a ditch. He hopped the fence around 2:30 a.m. Security saw this and contacted local police, according to the Texarkana Gazette.

The teen told police he didn’t think flying a plane would be that hard, just pushing buttons and pulling levers. Well when you put it that way it seems like anyone can do it.

The jet was totally fine after Scott’s attempt. In December, he was found mentally competent to stand trial. The Arkansas Counseling and Mental Health Center found that he understood the chargers facing him and the criminality of the alleged conduct.

He is currently banned from the airport property while on probation. He also has to pay a $1,000 fine and participate in any mental health treatment deemed necessary.
