Tessa Violet shares “Bad Ideas” in new music video—watch

After taking over the internet with her previous single “Crush,” Tessa Violet is premiering the music video for her brand-new song “Bad Ideas” exclusively with AP.

“Crush” amassed more than 24 million views on YouTube since its June release with its relatable lyrics and cute visuals. Just like the single that came before, “Bad Ideas” is incredibly honest and delightful.

Softer sounds and blunt lyrics pull you into “Bad Ideas.” Violet says the song is about her trying to get the most out of everything, even when it’s not possible.

“I had a really tough year last year,” she states. “I’d just been through a break up and was careening off the rails in many ways. A taste of something is never enough for me. I always need everything to be ‘the most,’ and when I can’t have it, I end up feeling lonelier than if I’d had none at all.”

Despite knowing that she can’t have it all, “Bad Ideas” touches on Violet’s nature to pursue the impossible regardless.

“‘Bad Ideas’ is me looking down the barrel of that understanding and plowing forth anyway. Feeling powerless to it,” she says.

She wanted the video to match the bittersweet tone of the song. Over the course of the track, it grows in momentum and becomes bigger.

“This song is so bittersweet to me, and it has this grandness, too,” Violet says. “I wanted to match that tone visually, without telling an explicit story. I think visually this music video is both grand and lonely, just like me.”

“Bad Ideas” is just the start of things to come for Violet. In fact, she’ll be releasing a full album, Bad Ideas, one track at a time over the course of 2019.

Violet is also playing her first headlining shows in New York and Los Angeles next week, with tickets available now.
