A24's The Idol trailer is unhinged Hollywood excess

The Weeknd and Sam Levinson are giving HBO subscribers a peek into their “twisted minds.” The first trailer for their upcoming show The Idol has dropped.

The A24 limited series will star Abel Tesfaye, better known as the Weeknd, and Lily-Rose Depp.

After undergoing a series of rewrites, the plot of The Idol still isn’t set in stone. Currently, the series centers on a self-help guru and cult leader (Tesfaye) as he develops a relationship with a pop star (Depp). According to i-D, the Weeknd remains unhappy with how little the show focuses on his character’s perspective so more revisions may be on the way.

The trailer flashes between scenes of Depp’s character practicing choreography and Tesfaye’s cult leader persona counting cash and doing coke. At the end, the two share an intimate moment.

There’s no word on when The Idol is set to release, but you can check out the trailer below.
