The Predator is directed by Shane Black and written by Black with Fred Dekker. And the plot of the flick reportedly takes place between the events of Predator 2 (1990) and 2010's Predators. But what are the ferocious Predators up to now?

Well, as pointed out by Bloody Disgusting, it looks like the film gets some of its backstory from the influential first Predator movie (1987), while amping things up with an apparent giant "Ultimate Predator" creature who seemingly kicks the crap out of a regular Predator? Brutal! Anyway, here's the new movie's official synopsis, as reported by Slash Film:

"From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race."

The new movie opens in U.S. theaters Sept. 14. So get ready for some extraterrestrial terror! Are you planning to go see the new flick? Sound off down in the comments.
