It looks like The Sandlot will be getting a television series sequel! If that news alone wasn’t enough to get you excited, you’ll be happy to know the original cast will be returning for the developing series.

The original film’s director, David Mickey Evans, announced the news while on the baseball podcast The Rain Delay.

Released in 1993, The Sandlot is a heartfelt, classic, fan-favorite film that is still enjoyed by many to this day.

In case you need a reminder of the film’s plot:

“The Sandlot is a coming-of-age story about a group of young boys growing up in California in 1962. A new, shy boy (Thomas Guiry) moves into the neighborhood, where he is initially rejected by the local boys because he doesn’t know how to play baseball. Soon, he learns the sport and joins the group of boys who play ball in a local sandlot, and with his new friends, he has a variety of adventures.”

Evans revealed alongside the TV series announcement that the original cast will be returning for the TV series.

The original cast includes Tom Guiry (Scotty Smalls), Mike Vitar (Benjamin “Benny” Franklin Rodriguez), Patrick Renna (Hamilton “Ham” Porter), Chauncey Leopardi (Michael “Squints” Palledorous), Marty York (Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan), Brandon Quintin Adams (Kenny DeNunez), Grant Gelt (Bertram Weeks), Victor DiMattia (Timmy Timmons), and Shane Obedzinski (Tommy “Repeat” Timmons).

According to Evans, the series has already been picked up for two seasons by a streaming service, although he did not reveal which one.

Prior to this announcement, this classic film received two follow-ups.

The Sandlot 2, also directed by Evans, was released in 2005 with James Earl Jones as the only original cast member to return.

A second sequel was released in 2007 titled The Sandlot: Heading Home. Evans was not involved this time around but Leopardi returned to reprise his role as “Squints” in the film.
