‘The Suicide Squad’ reboot to bring back beloved character

James Gunn’s the Suicide Squad has intentions of bringing back one of the 2016 film’s fan-favorites, Captain Boomerang. To make matters even better, Jai Courtney is allegedly going to reprise his role as the cowardly character.

According to BusinessInsider, Courtney says that the film is gearing up to start filming soon. And, with Margot Robbie supposedly on board to reprise her role as the legendary Harley Quinn, that means two originals are set to make a much-welcomed comeback.

“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time,” Courtney says of the Suicide Squad. “There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.

“I’m happy, it’s going to be fun,” Courtney continues. “It will be different, for sure, but it’s going to be great.”

That said, the forthcoming Suicide Squad will not be a sequel, but rather a “total reboot,” according to Producer Peter Safran.

“First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it,” Safran says. “It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.”

However, unlike Robbie and Courtney, Will Smith is not expected to reprise his role as Deadshot. Instead, the film has replaced Smith with Coachella-performer and acclaimed actor Idris Elba.

Currently, the next Suicide Squad film is expected to start production this fall. The estimated release date is slated for the summer of 2021.
