‘The Umbrella Academy’ star recalls hilarious Gerard Way band mixup
The Umbrella Academy has become one of Netflix‘s most popular shows since it debuted in February of 2019. There are plenty of theories and speculation regarding the highly-anticipated second season but for now, here’s some fun facts about the hit show.
At C2E2 in Chicago, IL over the weekend, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Robert Sheehan held a panel where they talked about many things. One notable point was that Sheehan had a My Chemical Romance related mixup.

Raver-Lampman and Sheehan play Allison and Klaus Hargreeves, respectively on the hit show The Umbrella Academy. The panel at C2E2 began with Sheehan telling a rather funny story about when he accepted the role of Klaus. When his agent pitched the opportunity, he told Sheehan that The Umbrella Academy was written by Gerard Way, which is correct. But, he also mentioned that his agent told him that Way was the frontman of the British electronic music duo known as the Chemical Brothers, not My Chemical Romance.
Raver-Lampman went on to say that the show being a massive hit is great, but you don’t really see how successful you are until you have a Funko! Pop figure of your likeness.

After some more chatter, Sheehan and Rave-Lampman discussed their behind the scenes character work. Sheehan said that he used to go into stores in the character of Klaus. From there, Raver-Lampman tells of how she originally was going to use her natural hair for the role of Allison, but wanted a separation between herself and the character.
“I think it would be really helpful if I had a wig,” Raver-Lampman said she told Steve Blackman. Now, as she sits in the hair and makeup trailer, it’s easier for her to transition into the character of Allison because she doesn’t look like herself.
The two also discussed how pivotal the music is for the show They say that the specific songs and parts of them are written into the script. A fun fact that Raver-Lampman also shares about the behind the scenes of The Umbrella Academy is that her and Tom Hopper (Luther Hargreeves) big dance scene was actually choreographed by Ellen Page‘s (Vanya Hargreeves) wife, Emma Portner.

If you’re hoping for any season two spoilers, however, look elsewhere. Netflix didn’t allow any season two discussion during the panel.
We know season two of The Umbrella Academy arrives later this year. An official return date is still unknown.

The Umbrella Academy took the world by storm even before it received its very own Netflix show. The super-powered academy rose to prominence under the pen of Gerard Way. The hyper-successful graphic novel is currently on its third volume.
Now, in some recent awesome news, it appears that a viewer/reader favorite Klaus is getting his own prequel spinoff.
The series is based on My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way‘s comic book of the same name. The story follows a household of heroes who were born on the same day around the world with special powers.

They are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves and numbered one through seven. The Hargreeves family learns how to control their powers and become the ultimate team: The Umbrella Academy.
Way will write the new, six-issue series. Shaun Simon will co-create it. Simon previously wrote The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys with Way back in 2013. This time around, Gabriel Bá will not lend his artistic talent for the series.
The series will be titled You Look Like Death: Tales From The Umbrella Academy.
The story will follow Séance, better known as Klaus Hargreeves roughly ten years before the events of The Umbrella Academy. Being a heavy drug and alcohol user that communicates with the dead, Klaus finds himself in trouble in Hollywood.

The official description adds a bit more detail.
Roughly ten years before the events of Apocalypse Suite, 18-year-old Séance gets himself kicked out of the Umbrella Academy. With his allowance discontinued by Hargreeves, he takes to a place where his ghoulish talents will be appreciated––Hollywood. After a magical high on a vampire-drug-lord’s stash, Klaus needs help, and doesn’t have his siblings there to save him.
“For a long time, I had wanted to tell the story of Klaus Hargreeves’ life after the Umbrella Academy disbanded and before the events of Apocalypse Suite,” Way said in a statement.
“I imagined a pretty wild decade for Klaus– full of ups and downs, seedy places, supernatural excursions, and internal battles within himself. I am thrilled to finally be able to tell this story with my co-writer Shaun Simon, who sees the world of the UA as clearly as I do. Also thrilled to work with such an amazing art and lettering team in I.N.J. Culbard and Nate Piekos.”

“The sky is the limit to where we can expand the Umbrella Academy universe,” Bá added. “This series will be a surprise to readers, and Ian’s distinct artwork will help with establishing Klaus’ past and building its own personal symbology.”
Dark Horse took to Instagram to announce the news.
