The Used reveal collab-packed ‘Heartwork’ album details

The Used have returned! Following the release of the gloriously vicious “Blow Me” featuring FEVER 333’s mighty Jason Aalon Butler at the end of 2019, the band are now announcing the details of forthcoming Heartwork.

They’ll be following up the single with “Paradise Lost, A Poem By John Milton,” which enters the digital realm tomorrow. As for Heartwork, it drops April 24, marking the first the Used album since 2017’s The Canyon and their first for producer John Feldmann‘s Big Noise label.

In addition to Butler, the Used—vocalist Bert McCracken, bassist Jeph Howard, drummer Dan Whitesides and new guitarist Joey Bradford (Hell Or Highwater)—are also joined by some other esteemed guests. Beartooth CEO Caleb Shomo contributes vocals to “The Lottery.” blink-182 members Mark Hoppus (“The Lighthouse”) and Travis Barker (the bouncy “Obvious Blasé”) bring their superstar magic to the proceedings, as well.

Producer Feldmann and the Used go way back, responsible for such classic scene-defining tracks as “The Taste Of Ink” and “A Box Full Of Sharp Objects.” It was only a matter of time until they’d team up again. (Next time you see Feldy, ask him about that one time he recorded Bert’s vocals out on the beach late at night.)

Feldmann recently talked all things Big Noise with AltPress, explaining that without the Used, he wouldn’t be where he is today.

“Look, without the Used, I don’t think we’d be talking,” Feldmann says. “The Used were definitely the catalyst that started my career as a producer. Goldfinger had a pretty good run, but we never did become Green Day. Ultimately, the Used are the one band that I knew I could help as a songwriter and as someone who can both arrange music and record music, I knew I could help them. So it is awesome to have come around full circle. There were years that went by where I thought, ‘Why wouldn’t I have done a label when I first discovered the Used?’ [all] those years ago instead of signing them to Warner [Records]. Everything happens for a reason: I don’t look back and think, ‘Goddamn it, what I should’ve done was…’ I always look forward. What’s next?”

Longtime the Used stans will find plenty of hooks and vicious riffery on Heartwork to fall in love with all over again. Even better, we’re stoked to be hearing these tracks live.

We asked a person close to the Heartwork project for some spoilers, but all they’d tell us was “Wow I Hate This Song” was downright anthemic and that “Clean Cut Heals” finds McCracken channeling his inner pop star. We’re stoked, you’re stoked!

While we patiently await actual confirmation of the Used joining the My Chemical Romance fall tour, we do know they’re currently on an intimate club run with Dragged Under. You can check out a full list of dates below with tickets here.
