The band reached out to fans last month and asked for pictures and videos for this project. Fans shared shots from inside hospital environments, kissing their families goodbye and dancing with their furry friends. Some individuals even rocked out in their band merch on the job.

Hoppus and members of the Used appeared in the video from their homes as well.

“Doubt can be an avalanche. It can cascade out and infect everything it touches. Inspiration is also infectious,” said frontman Bert McCracken of the track. “The original chorus lyric was ‘I can’t be your lighthouse,’ until I was reminded by my 6-year-old daughter that I can be and I am. It helps to remember that we all have the capability to inspire someone in our own way.”

They finished ended their video with a personal note to all the workers reading, “Thank you to everyone on the front lines. Stay safe!!! Love, The Used.”

More on the Used

The Used dropped their new album Heartworkand and collaborated with several artists including Caleb Shomo of Beartooth for the track “The Lottery.”

Speaking with Kerrang about the collab, frontman Bert McCracken says Shomo “jumped at the opportunity and devoured the concept like a wild animal.”

“He even recorded his parts in his green room in NYC right before he went onstage. The result is one of the heaviest songs in The Used catalog. And if you haven’t yet read the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, you’re in for a real treat!”

The Beartooth vocalist also explains his thoughts on the song, saying I got hit up to do it while on tour and I was all in: thankfully I had a recording rig with me. Bert sent me the song, lyrics and concept, and gave me the freedom to do anything I wanted with my part. It was pretty intimidating to lay it down on the road but I’m very happy with how it turned out – and I think everyone is!

“The Lottery” sees the band stirring up some loose and heavy sounds alongside the Beartooth frontman who brings an extra harsh edge to the song. The track closes out with a nasty dissonant breakdown matching up to what some of the heavier hardcore and metalcore bands are capable of today.
