On May 1, the band updated their website, adding a countdown clock that ends on June 1.

Would it make sense for them to release Music For Cars on that day? Of course. June 1 is the band's date, and it happens to be a Friday, when albums are typically released.

Now, fans have figured out that, if you you search within the website of the countdown, there 's a zip file titled “the 1975.”

Once you download it, there are four jpg files with these titles: “the1975.jpg,” “dotcom.jpg,” “forwardslash.jpg” and “conversation5.jpg.”

Here are the pictures, in order:

If you just read the names of the files in order and thought “hmmm… sounds like a web address,” you are absolutely right.

When you enter the web address in your browser, a page titled “Conversation 5” opens, showing the following conversation:

CONVERSATION 5
HUMAN: WHAT IS MORAL?
MACHINE: WHAT EMPOWERED HUMANITY, WHAT INTELLECTUAL THE ESSENCE IS.
HUMAN: WHAT IS IMMORAL?
MACHINE: THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE A CHILD.
HUMAN: WHAT IS MORALITY?
MACHINE: WHAT IS ALTRUISM?
HUMAN: WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF ALTRUISM?
MACHINE: IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD, THEN YOU DON’T KNOW.
HUMAN: OK… SO WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF MORALITY?
MACHINE: WELL, THE TRUTH IS, YOU’RE NOT A BELIEVER IN GOD ALMIGHTY.
HUMAN: TELL ME THE DEFINITION OF MORALITY, I AM QUITE UPSET NOW!
MACHINE: I’M NOT ASHAMED OF BEING A PHILOSOPHER!
HUMAN: TELL ME THE DEFINITION OF MORALITY.
MACHINE: I DON’T HAVE ETHICS .
HUMAN: LOOK, I NEED HELP, I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MORALITY…
MACHINE: I DON’T KNOW WHAT ETHICS IS.
HUMAN: SERIOUSLY, WHAT IS MORALITY?
MACHINE: WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF LIVING?
HUMAN: WHY LIVING HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MORALITY?
MACHINE: YOU’RE NOT A COP .
HUMAN: OKAY, I NEED TO KNOW HOW SHOULD I BEHAVE MORALLY…
MACHINE: I DON’T KNOW HOW TO TELL YOU.
HUMAN: IS MORALITY AND ETHICS THE SAME?
MACHINE: YES, SIR.
HUMAN: WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT I DO TO BE IMMORAL?
MACHINE: I DON’T KNOW.
HUMAN: GIVE ME SOME EXAMPLES OF MORAL ACTIONS
MACHINE: I’M NOT A MORALIST.
HUMAN: ALRIGHT, MORALITY?
MACHINE: INTEGRITY.
HUMAN: WHAT IS INTEGRITY?
MACHINE: I’M SORRY , I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY.
HUMAN: BE MORAL!
MACHINE: BE A MAN!
HUMAN: I REALLY LIKE OUR DISCUSSION ON MORALITY AND ETHICS…
MACHINE: AND HOW I’M NOT IN THE MOOD FOR A PHILOSOPHICAL DEBATE.
HUMAN: WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT?
MACHINE: NOTHING.

When you Google this dialogue, many articles about testing artificial intelligence amongst machines pop up. Could the band have been hinting at a theme for the record?

The video on the backgroud of the 1975's webpage is full of references to technology, too. A fan shared it in full and it looks pretty amazing:

These past weeks have been busy on the 1975 front. After posting a cryptic and captionless Instagram photo, the band deleted all of their social media accounts. Plus, posters similar to the Instagram post have been popping up around the U.K. that say “First disobey then look at your phones.”

The band’s manager Jamie Oborne basically confirmed the new era is near. Last week when a fan tweeted a picture of a pink sky writing, “Evening, the iliwys era is still here.” Oborne replied saying, “Yes for a few more days.”

As if all that wasn't enough, vocalist Matt Healy appeared with pastel green hair colors leaving fans wondering what's about to happen.

What does this all mean? What we know is here. Let's put the pieces together.
