With the inaugural APMAs only a few weeks away, we noticed a few folks online question the inclusion of Billy Corgan, the iconic frontman of alt-rock institution Smashing Pumpkins, who will receive the Vanguard Award for his consistent forward-thinking in music and art. Now, rather than scold those people (Y’all know Smashing Pumpkins were on the cover of AP before you were probably even born, right?), we thought we’d assemble some of our favorite Pumpkins covers from the past 20 years. Just as the Pumpkins covered a slew of classic artists during their career (among them, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac and Joy Division), many of your favorite contemporary musicians have paid homage to Corgan & Co. throughout the past decade or so. In case you somehow doubted Corgan’s influence on AP’s audience, well, here are 23 reasons that prove otherwise.

1. Yellowcard, “Today”

2. Panic! At The Disco, “Tonight, Tonight”

3. Bad Rabbits, “1979”

4. Cult Of Luna, “Bodies”

6. Roses Are Red, “Cherub Rock”
