The Dopamines/Dear Landlord - Split EP

The Dopamines/Dear Landlord

Split EP

The new split 7-inch on Paper + Plastick from Ohio’s the Dopamines and Minnesota’s Dear Landlord houses both bands’ somewhat gritty, anthem-driven pop-punk under one roof. The Dopamines emphasize the “pop” in pop-punk, with multi-tracked harmonies and a clean recording that conjures up Dude Ranch-era Blink-182. Just replace the lyrics about poop and pee with cold, stark reality: “They say that they like me the way that I am/But I know they’d just rather have me chemically altered.” On the flipside, Dear Landlord stray from the syrupy hooks and go more for the guts with gravelly vocals and simple song structures (think the Menzingers and the Loved Ones). There’s nothing groundbreaking on this split, but thanks to a manufacturing error, the folks at Paper + Plastick are selling the 7-inch for two bucks and some change. That should make this purchase a no-brainer for vinyl collecting pop-punk nerds.
