The future is now—you can buy your own personal jetpack next year

Living in the 21st century is a privilege we often take for granted. New Zealand company Martin has developed a consumer-level jetpack that they expect to be on sale in the second half of 2016. Jetpack pilots will be able to fly for up to 30 minutes, traveling at a maximum speed of roughly 46 mph, at an altitude as high as 1 kilometer, or about two thirds of a mile.

“I think the first responders will see that as a massive improvement to their capability,” says chief executive of Martin, Peter Coker to Reuters. Coker believes that the jetpack can be used by fire departments and other first responders to get into tight spaces inaccessible by standard vehicles.

The jetpack is pricey, expected to start at $150,000. Maybe next time you're looking to buy a car, you can buy a jetpack instead.
