The Maine perform "Sad Songs" for APTV Sessions

Last spring, the Maine stopped by the AP offices for a live acoustic session during which they played and told the stories behind “Miles Away,” “Sad Songs” and “English Girls” for a small audience.

In the third segment of this session which features them, Knuckle Puck and Real Friends, The Maine perform “Sad Songs.”

John O'Callaghan explains the story behind the song, which was inspired by a taxi driver he met in Newcastle.

“He lost the only girl that he'd loved to an arranged marriage,” he explains. “[Because of that] he literally told me he only listens to sad songs now.”
