As we previously reported, a Purge for the small screen is expected to be a 10-episode run that investigates what people in the films' dystopian universe do on the other days of the year—you know, the ones when they're not all trying to kill each other. For the uninitiated, The Purge movies' premise basically centers around an apocalyptic near-future when the U.S. government makes murder legal for just one day a year.

The Purge TV show is said to begin filming in New Orleans this spring, and now some new casting info is trickling out for the joint production from the Syfy channel and USA Network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the lead roles for the new series have been taken up by actors Gabriel Chavarria (War For The Planet Of The Apes) and Jessica Garza (Six). Chavarria will play a “Marine with a hard edge and a noble mission,” while Garza will assume the part of “Penelope, a woman who belongs to a Purge-worshipping cult.”
