This TikTok challenge is bringing back David Bowie’s most iconic looks

Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 marks what would’ve been David Bowie‘s 74th birthday. In celebration of the day, Bowie’s team has officially launched his music on TikTok.

Now, it looks like TikTok creatives are coming together to honor the late musician in a big way. For the new #TheStarman challenge, users on the platform are recreating some of Bowie’s most iconic looks from throughout the years.

It’s a pretty big day for David Bowie fans. Along with celebrating his birthday, TikTok users now have the ability to create videos set to some of his most classic songs. This week, a Bowie tribute TikTok @davidbowie officially announced that his biggest tunes are available to use on the platform.

“He remains one of the most influential and acclaimed artists of all time and his music has defined multiple generations and cultural moments,” TikTok’s Head of UK Music Operations Paul Hourican says. “We know the excitement our community will find discovering his music and creating using the indisputable Bowie sound.”

Now, it looks like fans are already getting creative with Bowie’s music. In celebration of his birthday, the new #TheStarman challenge has launched. For the challenge, Bowie fans are recreating some of his most iconic looks.

Bowie’s biggest hits haven’t even been available on TikTok for a week yet. However, fans are already coming through with some amazing recreations of his legendary fashion moments. Naturally, Ziggy Stardust is one of the most popular looks so far.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, some of music’s biggest talent are coming together for a Bowie tribute show. A Bowie Celebration will include appearances from Adam Lambert, Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor, the Pretty RecklessTaylor Momsen and YUNGBLUD among others.

Along with all of this, Bowie fans received a big gift on his 74th birthday. Two unreleased covers have been shared on streaming platforms. The first recording is Bowie’s reimagining of John Lennon‘s “Mother.” Bowie originally recorded the cover in 1998 with producer Tony Visconti.

As well, a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Tryin’ to Get to Heaven” has also been unearthed. Bowie recorded his version of the song in 1998 while working on his live album LiveAndWell.com.
