Tom Holland squashed a 'Spider-Man 3' rumor, but fans aren't convinced
Tom Holland has earned a reputation for spilling some major Marvel secrets over the years. Now, the Peter Parker actor has just revealed whether or not one of the biggest rumors surrounding Spider-Man 3 is true.
However, it looks like Holland’s words haven’t convinced many Marvel fans.

For months now, rumors have been swirling that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are reprising their Peter Parker roles in Spider-Man 3. These reports first emerged back in October. Since then, a lot has happened. Although Sony addressed the rumors in October, but refused to confirm them, a leaked Sony marketing teaser may have revealed the casting speculation is actually true.
Then, in January 2021, Marvel head Kevin Feige was asked about the three Peter Parkers theory. However, he also refused to confirm whether or not it is true. Finally, last week, Holland touched on the casting rumors. During a recent interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Holland revealed that Sony hasn’t told him a single thing about the rumors.
“Beats me, I don’t know,” he says. “If they are, they haven’t told me yet… That would be something that Marvel would do. I watch the film and be like, ‘So that’s who that tennis ball was!’”

Now, it looks like Holland is denying the casting rumors altogether. During a new interview with Esquire, he claims that Maguire and Garfield do not appear in Spider-Man 3.
“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” he says. “Unless they [Marvel] have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”
However, Holland’s latest update doesn’t have a lot of fans convinced. As we all know, Marvel has found various ways to keep major plot details from Holland over the years. For example, Marvel told Holland that that devastating scene in Avengers: Endgame was actually a wedding. Why? Well, the company wanted to avoid Holland from spilling any more major secrets.

Given Marvel’s secrecy and Holland’s reputation for spoilers, it’s possible Holland is being left in the dark about Maguire and Garfield’s speculated return. In fact, many fans are convinced Holland isn’t telling the truth about the Spider-Man 3 rumor. Some even theorize that Maguire and Garfield may make a return in a different MCU film such as the upcoming Doctor Strange movie.
Naturally, “Tom Holland” began trending on Twitter on Tuesday as fans reacted to his update.

More on Spider-Man 3:
Over the past few months, a lot of new information about Spider-Man 3 has emerged. Along with Benedict Cumberbatch who is returning as Doctor Strange in the new film, Jamie Foxx is also reportedly returning as Electro. Similarly, Alfred Molina is rumored to be reprising his Doctor Octopus role.
Given that both of these characters are from past Spider-Man films, many speculate that Spider-Man 3 will be full of familiar faces including Garfield and Maguire. More recently, a 4chan leak may have spilled the entire plot to Spider-Man 3. According to the leak, the new film is called Spider-Man: Homeworlds.
Throughout the film, Spider-Man allegedly faces the repercussions of Scarlet Witch opening the multiverse at the end of WandaVision. Eventually, this causes Holland to unite with Garfield and Maguire’s Peter Parkers. Together, they must work together to defeat the villains from their past and, according to the leak, there are a lot of them in this new film.

In a new interview with Variety, Holland said that Spider-Man 3 is the most “ambitious” superhero film ever made.
“I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made,” he said. “You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding. It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little shit who happens to be Spider-Man in it.”
Although Sony may be keeping some secrets from Holland, the company did release a massive hint about the new film. Last week, Sony shared a cryptic clue that alludes to one of the storylines in Spider-Man 3. By the looks of it, the upcoming movie is going to address that massive Far From Home cliffhanger with Mysterio and Peter Parker.
As well, an eagle-eyed fan recently spotted a big detail on the set of Spider-Man 3 that may have confirmed a new villain is joining the MCU in the new movie.
