Track By Track: Vinnie Caruana, 'City By The Sea'

Vinnie Caruana (of The Movielife and I Am The Avalanche) released his debut solo EP, City By The Sea, earlier this week and took time to write out the following track-by-track explanation of his work. Open up a new tab and stream the album while you read, and order the album at the Run For Cover Records online store.

“Somehow The World Keeps Turning”
This jam is super-personal and speaks heavily to anxiety issues and personal battles. Life never gets easier the older you get. Guess that means I’ll always have something to write about.

“Boy, You’re in Heaven”
Growing up, I never really had anybody close to me die. It has begun to happen, and this song is an ode to loved ones who have passed. It’s a toast to their lives.

“To Be Dead And In Love”
I wrote this song on the eve of my divorce. It’s about a character who dies and can’t be with his love. He can see her, but he doesn't exist to her anymore.

“City By The Sea”
I am speaking to a few different people from my past in this one. It’s nice to be able to not hurt anymore and think about these people with a clear head. My house looks at the sea, and it's a great place to think.

“If I’m A Battleship, Then You’re The Northern Lights (Thank You)”
This is a thank-you note to the people who support my music. I’m blessed to play music for a living, and I would never take that for granted. XO

“Kingwood”
This be a love song for my chick. She grew up in a place called Kingwood, Texas. I recently injured myself, and she has been a solid rock for me and helps me with anything I need. Love songs are few and far between with me, but she deserves it. alt.

Caruana is currently on the Acoustic Basement Tour, which runs through the end of the month. He and his tourmates stopped by our offices yesterday. You can see photos of their in-office acoustic sessions and a shot of Caruana from the show last night on our instagram.
