For all of the movie buffs out there, the time has finally arrived. On Monday, the Oscars unveiled the nominations for its 2021 awards show. Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra had the honor of announcing this year's Academy Award nominees during a virtual ceremony.

Netflix's Mank leads the pack this year with a staggering 10 nominations. Meanwhile, Chadwick Boseman has earned a posthumous Actor In A Leading Role nomination for his part in Netflix's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are also nominated this year. The duo is up for Original Score for their work on both Mank and Disney and Pixar's Soul.

The 2021 nominations list is also historic in a few different ways. For the first time ever, two female directors, Chloé Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, are nominated together in the Directing category. Zhao is also the first woman of color to be nominated for this particular award.

As well, according to CNN, the Academy states 70 women received a total of 76 nominations across all of the categories, which is a historic record for the awards show.

Both Reznor and Ross are already having a great awards season. Last month, the duo and Jon Batiste walked away with the Best Original Score – Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes for Soul. Reznor and Ross were also nominated in that same category for Mank. On March 7, Reznor, Ross and Batiste were also among the winners at the Critics Choice Awards when they won the Best Orginal Score award for Soul.

Reznor and Ross have quite a history with the Oscars. Back in 2011, their score for The Social Network earned them their first nomination at the Academy Awards. Eventually, the Nine Inch Nails members won the Original Score category over 127 Hours, How To Train Your Dragon, Inception and The King's Speech.

Their scores for Mank and Soul are available to stream below.

Over the years, Reznor has appeared on eight different Alternative Press covers. He was first on the front of AP with Nine Inch Nails back in 1990. Since Issue #31, he has been on various other covers and holds the record for the second-most AP cover appearances. Currently, Andy Black of Black Veil Brides holds the record for most covers.

Similar to Reznor and Ross, Boseman has also already won a few prestigious awards this year. Back in August, Boseman tragically died at the age of 43 after a long battle with colon cancer. However, while battling the disease, the actor filmed various projects including Ma Rainey's Black Bottom which is based on an August Wilson play.

At the Golden Globes, Boseman was awarded Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his portrayal of Levee in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. He also won Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards earlier this month. Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted both of the awards on his behalf.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is the last project Boseman filmed before his death. However, Marvel fans haven’t seen the last of the Black Panther star just yet. Boseman appears as both T'Challa and Star-Lord in the new Disney+ series What If…?.
