twenty one pilots turn back time in era-melding “The Hype” video

twenty one pilots just dropped a new music video for “The Hype” which was filmed in their hometown and features a bunch of their fans.

Last month, the band scouted fans from Columbus, Ohio to appear in a music video that was filmed after they finished the Bandito Tour stop in the city.

They asked for 18-30-year-olds to feature in it, but they didn’t reveal what song it was for.

Now, we know it was for the Trench track “The Hype”. Needless to say, the video has a lot going on and a ton of hidden messages.

It shows Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun’s rise to fame, from starting out by playing music in their basement. Then, it shows their career progressing from smaller shows to bigger gigs, all with some connection to the house. Then, they explode the building completely.

The video also seems to nod at their song “Stressed Out” with the way they “turn back time”. Also, they’re seen drinking Capri Suns at the end, which is another nod.

Because the video features fans (and an appearance from Ned), it’s possible the house shown was one of their childhood homes.

You can see the video for “The Hype” below.

When the band shared the video, they made a joke about all of the plaid flannels they wear in it.

Because there was so much going on in the video, fans already have a ton of theories about it.

More twenty one pilots news

Twenty one pilots are possibly gearing up to drop a collab with one of our favorite pop queens ever — Halsey.

The speculation comes because a new song was added to the band’s discography on BMI repertoire, a music royalty and licensing site.

The website is responsible for bringing fans song titles “Jumpsuit” and “Nico And The Niners” long before they dropped.

The new song is called “Emotional Arsonist” and the songwriting credit shows Halsey. This means she could be featured on the song. There is also a third person listed in the songwriting credit.

This is definitely no solid proof, but we can only hope it means a collab track is coming sooner than later.
