Ty Segall's 'Emotional Mugger' is an out-of-this-world psychedelic venture

Ty Segall

Emotional Mugger

Indie darling Ty Segall’s Emotional Mugger is like the scene from Back To The Future when Marty McFly steps into Doc’s garage and is completely obliterated by the sheer power produced by a giant amp from a single strum. In short: prepared to be blown away. The album’s 11 tracks run together with no clear beginning or end, offering a little bit of weirdness and a whole lot of rock ’n’ roll. Putting his pristine guitar chops on full display (“Squealer,” “Diversion”), Segall dips into another world filled with glitter, flamboyance and colorful characters brought to life through songs with the strangest of titles (“Breakfast Eggs,” “Baby Big Man (I Want A Mommy)”). Emotional Mugger is an out-of-this-world psychedelic venture meant to be listened to—and listened to very loud.
