Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie enters alternate reality in EDM collab

EDM and rock have been going hand-in-hand lately with a ton of epic collabs being born from the melding of the two genres. Underoath drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie is joining the ranks of rad collabs, teaming up with EDM artist Rezz.

Gillespie took on singing duties for Rezz’s new track, “Falling,” and he also appears in the futuristic video.

Rezz reflected on working with Gillespie, writing, “I grew up listening to a bunch of bands. it was cool for me to work w/ Underoath as they were one of my favs ? Tbh the rest of the ep gonna fk u up”

Gillespie echoed the sentiment on Instagram, stating, “So stoked on the new track with @officialrezz.”

The track appears on Rezz’s forthcoming Beyond The Senses EP. The album follows her previous releases, 2017’s Mass Manipulation and 2018’s Certain Kind Of Magic.

Rezz recruited Gillespie to perform the track live at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas in May. You can catch the collab below at about 20:15.

As for the official “Falling” video, it channels VR inspiration, which ties in with Rezz’s plans to host listening parties in VR environments.

More on Underoath

Underoath recently dropped the music video for their song “Bloodlust.” The song, which discusses a range of serious subjects, features a video that reflects the band’s feelings. Additionally, the music video serves as a continuation of their song “ihateit.”

Set in black and white, the video features drummer Aaron Gillespie and singer Spencer Chamberlain chained to a telephone pole. However, Gillespie says the night surrounding the filming of their latest music video was nothing short of interesting.

While the tonality of the song is actually rather serious, Gillespie says the music video was actually super fun to film.

“For ‘Bloodlust,’ which picks up where ‘ihateit’ left off, Spencer and I were chained to a pole for three hours with a stranger, who was the actress,” Gillespie says. “Making this video was a really interesting process, because the song deals with a lot of deep issues and struggles—but it was so late when we were filming that we were just hysterical. The video seems so serious due to the lyrical content, but it was a night.”

“Bloodlust” is from the band’s latest album, Erase Me. You can pick up your copy of it here.

Underoath are hitting the road with Korn and Alice In Chains next month. You can check out a full list of dates below and secure your tickets here.
