‘Venom 2′ set to move forward—without a current director
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Venom managed to pull in an impressive $855 million, chalking it up as a box office hit. Obviously with such great success under its belt, a sequel to the film was quickly ushered into developmental stages. Despite the film slated to hit production this fall, it looks like they may have already hit one massive snag...
There's currently no director.
Director Ruben Fleischer was the one who brought Venom to life, and most expected him to take the reigns for the sequel as well. Unfortunately, he's had to depart from round two due to a massive scheduling conflict.
You see, Fleischer is currently working on getting Zombieland 2 ready for its October 2019 release.
At least he has a damn good reason for having to step down.
Currently, the sequel is still expected to move forward in order to stay on track for its possible 2020 release, but we have to admit, a movie without a director makes us a tiny bit nervous.
Luckily, we doubt it will take Sony too long to fill Fleischer's shoes.
Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson are all expected to return in their roles, along with screenwriter Kelly Marcel.
If the sequel continues to move forward with production this fall, we should expect a release date of October 2, 2020.
Venom managed to out-perform both Star Wars and Guardians Of The Galaxy last year, earning it the title of one of the top 10 box office hits of 2018.
