Boston Manor react to "the classics" on National Emo Day

In case you didn’t mark it on your calendar, it’s National Emo Day! And to commemorate this day in the best way possible, we asked the members of Boston Manor to react to some bona fide modern emo classics.

APTV’s Bobby Makar corralled members of Boston Manor–frontman Henry Cox, guitarist Ash Wilson and drummer Jord Pugh–in front of the camera to get their responses to some foregone classics. Tracks from My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy and Paramore were in the mix. But there were also some non-superstar selections, as well. Old-school torchbearers such as The Promise Ring’s “Nothing Feels Good” and “Circles” from Sunny Day Real Estate were also submitted for Boston Manor’s approval.

“It depends on what you’re talking about when you say ’emo,'” says Cox. “The emo from when we were 15, 16 was emo revival. But I’ve always considered true emo to be like Braid and Small Brown Bike and all that kind of stuff. Emo’s heyday as far as anyone my age or younger is concerned is My Chem.” Cox also reveals that he was a big Hawthorne Heights fan in his youth.

And because we’re clever, we added “Gone,” a track from Boston Manor’s first EP. Spolier alert: A spate of air drumming ensues.

The great Britons were an entertaining bunch sharing great responses and stories. Like the time someone insisted to them that actor Gerard Butler was the singer of My Chemical Romance. Or how a certain band rescued them from their metal phase.
