Trivium's Matt Heafy on how Avenged Sevenfold helped him get his voice back (literally)

APTV Metal Correspondent Stevie James speaks to Trivium's Matt Heafy about how their band progresses from album-to-album and more. He also guides us through a near-traumatic part of his vocal career when he blew his voice out and how another revered metal vocalist helped him through it.

“Two years ago, on this stage right here, I blew my voice out for good,” he explains, gesturing to the Columbus Mapfre Stadium stage below. “I thought my singing career was done.”

Afterward, he was messaged by Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows, who had gone through a similar situation in the past, asking how he could help Heafy.

“He put me in touch with his singing teacher, and I've been training with Ron Anderson two years since,” he says, stressing that singing and screaming has never felt easier for him and that it's important to take care of your voice and body with as much care as you would any external instrument.
