Watch the Woodsman’s Babe’s new video for “Everywhere Always”

The Woodsman’s Babe (a.k.a. singer/songwriter Joe Lengson) is teaming up with AP to bring you his new video for “Everywhere Always.” The track is taken from the project’s debut self-titled album, which comes out April 14 on CI Records. (Pre-order it now.) Check out the video, and let us know your thoughts!

Lengson writes about the song:

“Like a decade ago, I wrote this email while I was on tour to an ex-girlfriend and I liked the way the email flowed when I proof read it. I saved the email in a word document and over the years I re-wrote the email a whole bunch until I felt like it read more like lyrics. I remember thinking that I really wanted to save those lyrics for a song that really stuck out from my other songs because it had some weird sentimental value to me and deserved to be in a big song so it could be the “single” from my album and not just a throw away filler track on the album. Well, one winter I was home for Christmas and I was over at my buddy Danes house and we were talking about life and music and we were listening to music and that I night I went home feeling inspired and essentially wrote out all of the guitar and drums for this song until like 6 a.m. After listening back when I woke up the next day, I knew that the music that I wrote out that night was suitable for those lyrics that I had been saving.

So in 2012, when I moved back to L.A. I got incredibly into filmmaking, (as you do) and I wrote out a million screenplays and video treatments, not sure why still, I suppose mostly for fun. Anyway, I had this idea where I would shoot a music video for every song I released, just because I could, even if they were bad or no one watched. Well, I got lazy and fell into this weird L.A. life and I never followed through with my plans (as we do). The idea I had for this music video originally was like, crazy, I wanted like, a hundred people dressed in nice dresses and fine suits in this dance hall, then have an actor get roofied or someone to put acid in his drink, then everyone around him start to look like circus carnies or something. Then I wanted this guy to freaking out and start partying with all the people and make it look like a high school rager, like people making out and people throwing up and dancing and stuff. I had a lot of other ideas for this too, like using really nice cameras and stabilizers and stuff. Then they would all walk out of the building around dawn looking all ratchet. What I originally wrote out, went way more in depth but I’ll try to keep this thing short. This video obviously never came to fruition because this would have cost a ton of money.

For a second, I thought, Hmm, if I made a video like that, people on the internet would be like, hey that guy that used to be in that Christian metal band is making a video with drugs and sex. Then it would have been this whole weird thing. I remember being straight edge when I was like 16, and people put me on this thing called likeEdge Watch or something to keep me accountable or something. I mean, I get it, but really? idk that was a million years ago. I remember a long time ago on twitter, some kid threatened me because I was at a bar after a show. Hey, are there kids out there still that beat up other kids for breaking edge or something similar? Sorry, I’m totally rambling here, I just chugged a bunch of coffee and I just walked several miles in the cold back to Williamsburg to get to my computer to write this. In my head, this wassupposed to be a short blurb for Alt Press because I think I have to go into Manhattan in a bit, but oh well. I’ll try to wrap this up. If you’ve made it this far, bravo!

ANYWAY, this is the video that we actually made. It has literally nothing to do with my original treatment, and nothing to do with a grand fancy dance hall or anything extravagant, it’s just me and the bros hanging out. This is actually kind of a typical day for me; make some music, eat a bunch of burritos and DAAAANNNCCCINNGG THE NIGHT AWAAAAY. I really didn’t plan on making a music video at this time, because I was busy with other stuff but I kind of sensed that I really needed a music video for an initial release for when the record comes out, so I just figured we’d live our lives normally for a day or so and just have a camera with us. This happened within a days notice and cost zero dollars. I hope you like it, I’m sure you will, I mean, come on, who doesn't love burritos!? Though, I’m not confident yet if I love it or hate it, primarily because there are no carnies or drugs and fancy people in it. I couldn’t really read if my label or publicist love it or hate it, but oh well. Either way, you get to listen to my first single off my new record, and spend a day with me in black and white.

ENJOY MY LITTLE BABIES.

LOTS OF LOVE,

JOE”
