Watch Mike Herrera of MxPx tell Ernie Ball about his life in music
In its series String Theory, Ernie Ball sits down with hugely talented musicians for a revealing conversation.
Herrera discusses his creative process, how he got into music and why he chose the bass guitar as his instrument.
"I met a local band and watched them practice, and they just sounded amazing," Herrera says about his early exposure to punk music. "It was like Bad Religion—really fast, aggressive music. It said a lot of the things I was feeling."
"The cool thing as a bass player and the writer is that I can continue to add a lot of texture, a lot of depth to the song," he adds about his creative process. "As a bass player, I can really get in there and really play with things and do harmonies."
Ernie Ball has also interviewed Dustin Kensrue of Thrice and Ilan Rubin of Nine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves and the New Regime. Catch all the videos here.
