Weathers are “coming for ya” in their brand-new single “Karma”–listen

Alternative-rock quartet Weathers are back with their fourth and final single “Karma” from their forthcoming album, which they are exclusively premiering with AltPress. This track follows the release of “Rehab,” “Losing Blood” and “C’est la vie.”

The fresh, euphoric instrumentals paired with melancholic lyrics are “for all the people who wronged you, didn’t believe in you or ignored you. This one is for them,” vocalist Cameron Boyer says of the song.

Beyond the single releases and sophomore LP, Pillows & Therapy, due out Aug. 13, the band are also going on their first-ever headlining tour this fall, the Our Little Secret tour, with Aaron Taos and Kenzo Cregan. You can check out when the band are coming to a city near you below.

You really burst onto the scene with “Happy Pills” in a groundbreaking way a few years back. How have you grown as a group since your earliest single releases? In what ways did you get to grow your sound with “Karma” and “Rehab”?

BRENNEN BATES: “Happy Pills” was definitely a good debut for us starting out. Since then, we’ve all grown a lot mentally and emotionally as a band and individually. With our music, we like to be honest, and it tends to follow a coming-of-age story similar to a John Hughes movie, as we all learn more about ourselves and consistently grow and adapt. All of this tends to show through our music, both lyrically and sonically, leading to these new sounds you hear in our more recent music like “Karma” and “Rehab.”

What real-life events, if any, helped shape your lyrics to “Karma”?

CAMERON OLSEN: The lyrics for “Karma” are pretty straightforward and touch upon a situation we’ve all been in. The typical heartbreak story with the twist of the heartbreaker getting what they deserve. What comes around goes around.

How did you craft your instrumentals and lyrics to meld in a way that made your vision truly come to life?

OLSEN: I think a lot of how we crafted our sound came from the type of music we grew up listening to. [We’re] heavily inspired by bands like the Cure, Depeche Mode and Pixies, which gave us our “feel-good” sound with a melancholic tone.

You’ve released a handful of singles ahead of your August album drop. What are you most looking forward to with sharing the new album? What do you hope this new era of Weathers brings you as artists, and what do you hope the fans take away from the LP?

BATES: We’re most looking forward to sharing the experience of this album, whether people are listening at home, in their car or during Our Little Secret tour this fall. A lot of work has been put into this since our debut album, Kids In The Night, and we want to make sure everyone can relate with us, and vice versa. Of course, as artists, we hope that this album brings us more opportunity to keep doing what we love and sharing our passion with our fans while letting them know that it’s OK to not be OK and how to deal with mental health issues going forward.

You’re heading out on your first headlining tour ever this fall. How are you preparing for this run, and what can fans expect? 

BATES: For the Our Little Secret tour, we are preparing by practicing and putting together an experience for everyone who comes. People can expect to see a new show and experience new music full of emotions that we can go through together.
