Wilco cancel Indiana concert over state’s new anti-LGBT law
Earlier today, Wilco canceled a show in Indiana after expressing their distaste for the state’s controversial new “religious freedom” law. Critics warn that the law will enable business owners to discriminate against the LGBT community.
“We're canceling our 5/7 show in Indianapolis,” the band said in a tweet. “’Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act’ feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination.”
According to Talking Points Memo, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has been an outspoken supporter of LGBT rights, urging residents of his home state to support same-sex marriage.
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, where he condemned Indiana’s new law and others like it. “A wave of legislation, introduced in more than two dozen states,” Cook wrote, “would allow people to discriminate against their neighbors.”
If you haven’t already, Cook’s article is definitely worth a read.
