The mystery gets deeper in the new teaser trailer for Yellowjackets season 2

Will we ever know what really happened out in the sprawling Canadian wilderness? With the new teaser trailer for Yellowjackets season 2, we’re that much closer to discovering how a high school girls’ soccer team devolved into a cannibalistic clan.

The Emmy-nominated TV series will pick back up Friday, March 24 on Showtime. As teased by season 1’s shocking finale and confirmed in casting announcements last year, the upcoming season will boast some new faces, including Simone Kessell as adult Lottie, Lauren Ambrose as adult Van, and Elijah Wood as a man named Walter, who’s said to be another armchair detective like Christina Ricci’s Misty. It won’t be the last time we see these beloved feral girls, either: The series was already renewed for a third installment, as well.

The new teaser opens up with Natalie (Juliette Lewis) undergoing hypnosis as an adult, flashing between scenes of a gory past and an ominous present. It also gives a glimpse at Woods’ new detective character Walter, as he sits in a car with Misty and tells her, “Kidnapping, cults, death. Your friendships are a little more complicated than most.” It seems likely that the new season will be even darker than the first installment, given how the ’90s timeline should show the girls descend into cannibalism — and the foreboding trailer certainly makes it seem like that’s what’s in store. At one point, Natalie even says, “Darkness, we brought it back with us.”

Prepare yourself for even more of the expert psychological horror (and horrors of aging in both adolescence and middle age) that the show explores by watching the gripping teaser trailer below.
