Andy Biersack on Warped: “Other festivals don’t have the cultural significance"

Come June 21, the end of an era begins: Warped Tour, America’s longest-running touring festival, begins its final cross-country campaign.

To celebrate the tour’s last run, we asked respected Warped veterans to share in their own words, how Warped has impacted them personally.

This week, Andy Biersack—frontman for Black Veil Brides and his Andy Black solo persona—likens the tour to his favorite day of the year.

There is this melancholy feel around this year’s Warped Tour. The truth is anytime you do Warped—whether it’s the first one or the last one—it’s the best day for the people who are there.

I’m not going to say that every single show that I’ve done is someone’s “favorite day.” When you’re at Warped—whether you’re miserable because of sunburn or whatever—that day means so much to 70 percent of the audience. It’s the day that they’ve been expecting all year. That kind of energy is unparalleled, and I don’t know if I’ll ever know that feeling of replicating it again. Because in my opinion, other festivals don’t have the cultural significance.

One of the things I’m going to miss the most—and one of the things I’m going to be most excited about—is being out there with people who you know it’s their favorite day. And they’re so excited to be experiencing it.

In a previous interview with Biersack, the frontman shared his parting feelings pertaining to Warped Tour’s end.

“To know that [Warped is] coming to an end is like losing a friend,” Biersack says. “Like losing the place that meant the most to you when you were a kid. Or watching your church get knocked down and you wonder what is going to be built in the ash and the rubble where it once stood. I’ve seen both sides of the fence now, and [Warped] means just as much to me as it did when I was 15. And I’m going to mourn it, because it’s a sad day for all of us.”
