‘Blink-182 Goes Broadway’ for charity featuring ‘American Idiot,’ ‘Rent’ stars
Blink-182 and Broadway is a combination we didn’t know we needed until now.
Cover band the Dude Ranch will be pumping out the SoCal act’s greatest hits with a little help from some of Broadway’s best. Alex Boniello (Dear Evan Hansen), Tracy McDowell (Rent), Brian Charles Johnson (American Idiot), Gerard Canonico (Be More Chill) and Darius Harper (Cirque Du Soleil Volta) are among those scheduled to perform.
NEW YORK!!!! @theduderanchnyc is so excited to announce a show at @mercuryloungeny with some of my favorite people working in the broadway community! Mark those calendars for August 20th!!! See ya there ?#Blink182GoesBroadway #BenefitConcert #americansuicidepreventionfoundation tickets available on ticketfly. https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/mobile/index/1733194?utm_medium=bks
In addition to getting to see an epic show, ticket sale proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a move the band says was inspired by the recent loss of members of the scene.
“We have a lot of friends in the music and Broadway communities [in New York City] who suffer from mental health issues, and with all of the amazing artists we’ve lost, like Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell, it’s super important to address,” says the Dude Ranch bassist Zach Falkow. “We’re very excited to have gotten some of these people to join us for the show, and it’s going to be a truly awesome night for a great cause.”
This isn’t the first time a beloved band has been featured on Broadway. Outside of Green Day’s American Idiot, Paramore have also gotten the stage treatment. Broadway Does Paramore occurred earlier this year and featured cast members from Hamilton, Newsies, SpongeBob, Waitress and more.
Blink-182 Goes Broadway will take place on Aug. 20 at New York City’s Mercury Lounge, and tickets can be purchased here.
