Citizen are preparing to drop their fifth album, Calling The Dogs, in October. To preview the release, the alt-rock outfit dropped new single “Hyper Trophy.”

Mat Kerekes’ gruff vocals are partnered with spiky guitar riffs and pummeling drums, sounding catchy as all hell. The song also follows “If You’re Lonely,” which served as the first introduction to their next era, and comes with a music video where the band run through a SoCol desert ranch in the middle of the night.

“Sometimes, though you are trying hard to accomplish something, it can’t be done,” Kerekes says. “This song is about a relentless pursuit of an objective but still failing — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If you find something you love and pour everything you have into that, I find that admirable regardless of the outcome.”

Calling The Dogs arrives Oct. 6 via Run For Cover. See the video for “Hyper Trophy” below.
