Since the premiere of The Umbrella Academy season 2 back in July, not a whole lot of information about season 3 has been shared. Given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, some fans are worried that the series may become another Netflix show to be canceled in 2020.

Then, last week, a report emerged that The Umbrella Academy season 3 is still happening. According to ProductionWeekly, filming for the show will reportedly begin on Feb. 1, 2021 and wrap in August. The report, however, gave some fans a false sense of hope seeing as neither The Umbrella Academy nor Netflix had confirmed this information.

Now, it looks like the report was true after all. On Tuesday, The Umbrella Academy shared the exciting news that season 3 is in the works and production will begin in February 2021.

Along with the announcement, Justin H. Min shared a throwback video in celebration of the news. Filmed back in November 2019, Min hints at the fate of Ben Hargreeves in season 3 while saying goodbye to the character’s signature leather jacket and hoodie.

“almost one year ago to the day. and what a ride it’s been. grateful for every moment. thank you, thank you, thank you. can’t wait to get back to toronto and freeze to death. jk. i’ve already died twice. season 3, here we come.”

Although specifics about season 3 have not been confirmed, fans can likely expect to see a lot of The Sparrow Academy. As we saw in the last moments of season 2, the Hargreeves siblings arrived back in the “present time,” but soon learned things aren’t quite what they seem. Instead of starting The Umbrella AcademySir Reginald Hargreeves created The Sparrow Academy.

The latter academy features all-new members from the original 43 children born on Oct. 1, 1989. Along with Lila Pitts, who was introduced in season 2, Ben Hargreeves is also a member of the mysterious Sparrow Academy.

The Sparrow Academy is part of the original comics created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba. However, they don’t appear until the end of the third volume. Showrunner Steve Blackman previously explained why they decided to incorporate The Sparrow Academy into the show early.

“I have a wonderful collaboration with Gerard and we talk a lot about where he wants to go with the different volumes of the comics,” he said. “I had an idea for the end of this season, a little similar to what the Sparrows were. When I heard he was doing the Sparrows, I got super excited.”

Alternative Press recently interviewed Justin H. Min who revealed some new secrets about The Sparrow Academy and what’s in store for Ben Hargreeves in season 3.
