Eilish is coming out on top with her first No. 1 on a Billboard chart, and we couldn’t be more proud. The track is also sitting pretty within the top 10 on the all-format Digital Song Sales chart, holding down the No. 7 spot.

We’re honestly expecting it to continue to climb considering the song sat at No. 19 just last week on the all-format chart.

The track pulled in an impressive 18,000 downloads sold within its first week, following its January 30 release.

Those sales helped Eilish’s song make the jump from No. 74 to No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Before this, Eilish peaked at No. 3 on the Alternative Digital Sales chart with “when the party’s over” and “come out and play”.

As far as streams go, “bury a friend” accrued an astounding 29.1 million U.S. streams within the tracking week, snagging a No. 8 spot on the Streaming Songs chart.

The inspiration behind the album

With the release of “bury a friend”, Eilish revealed how the song inspired the rest of the album.

“When we made ‘bury a friend,’ the whole album clicked in my head,” she says. “I immediately knew what it was going to be about, what the visuals were going to be, and everything in terms of how I wanted it to be perceived. It inspired what the album is about. ‘bury a friend’ is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling?”

“I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy,” she continues. “I might be the monster under your bed too.”
