In an interview with Esquire Bird Box author Josh Malerman confirmed there will indeed be a sequel to the eerie novel. The new book will be titled Malorie and will go in depth as to what happened to the heroine after she found safety.

“The Bird Box world is Malorie’s story, and I wanted to know more about her,” Malerman says. “I wanted to get to know her even better. At the end of the movie, I turned to my girl Allison and said, ‘I want to know what happens next!’ And she’s like, ‘Well, you know, you could make that happen,’ so it really was this warm feeling.”

Though he didn’t say where the monsters came from, Malerman did share we’ll be learning about more than just Malorie.

“I will say this: We get to know both Malorie and the creatures better,” he says.

Malerman shared the upcoming sequel’s cover artwork on his Twitter account, which highlights the infamous blindfolds.

Not only is he a writer, but a musician as well, and he’s looking for a way for both of those worlds to collide.

“I have fantasies of doing…I wouldn’t say a musical or a play of Bird Box,” Malerman says. “But some kind of horror-theater of that world. Blindfold the audience and play the music that I’ve played for my friends. I’m always looking for that angle in that world, but I’m looking for it.”

The book is set to be released October 1, and preorders are available now There have been no announcements on whether Malorie will be adapted into a film, so we can only hope.
