As well, the duo has joined forces with non-profit Hope For The Day for the new single.
Marshmello first cryptically teased the collaboration with Lovato back in August. Then, last week, Lovato confirmed that “OK Not To Be OK” was on its way.
For the new collaboration, Lovato and Marshmello have teamed up with Hope For The Day. Hope For The Day is a “non-profit movement empowering the conversation on proactive suicide prevention and mental health education.”
Hope For The Day’s website includes resources and information regarding mental health and suicide prevention. There are also phone numbers to hotlines individuals can reach out to for support.
As well, an “OK Not To Be OK” website has launched and offers access to Hope For The Day’s resources as well as a mood quiz and music playlist.
During a recent interview with Apple Music, Marshmello opened up about the collaboration with Lovato and the meaning behind “OK Not To Be OK.”
“I think it’s just such an important subject,” Marshmello says. “I think a lot of people, about negative feelings and negative thoughts that are affecting them are kind of scared to bring it up, scared to talk about it. When in reality, they’re scared because maybe the person won’t relate or the person won’t understand, when in reality most of time the person that you could bring it up to, will most likely has felt like this or will understand or can relate as well. So I think it’s very important to talk about it.”
Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day and September is National Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month. If you’re struggling or are looking for support, head to Hope For The Day’s website for more information.
Lovato’s collab with Marshmello comes just days after fans think she teased a new song on Instagram. Last week, she unveiled a new butterfly tattoo on her neck and captioned the post with what fans think are unreleased song lyrics.
