As previously reported, the story begins when the father of one of Pikachu's friends gets kidnapped, forcing the crew to team up with Detective Pikachu to find him. While the plot seems to be pretty interesting, it's the voice of Pikachu that's got us turning our heads in bewilderment.
Instead of the voice that many fans have come to know and love, everyone's favorite Pokémon has traded his signature voice to one that sounds like a middle-aged man. Yeah, it's a little strange. Don't believe us? Check out the trailer below!

Assuming you've watched the video, the voice is completely off-putting, right?! We're not the only ones to think so—it looks like some Twitter users are completely thrown off by the voice as well.
i have so many conflicting emotions about detective pikachu… he's so cute with his little waddle and detective hat but then he opens his mouth and hes a 30 year old man and i feel my soul disassociate from this plane of existence at the voice-appearance dissonance

One user brings up a pretty valid point: Why isn't Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu?!
who the fucks idea was it to make this? and why isn't Ryan Reynolds the voice of detective pikachu? https://t.co/hHHuu7lnyO

We feel this user's annoyance because similarly, we will also be playing through the stress of that voice.
i’m annoyed because i absolutely WILL play detective pikachu even though pikachu’s deep ass human voice stresses me out

While we're clearly a little surprised by the voice of Pikachu, we're still pretty excited about the game, which comes out March 23. In addition to the game, we also know that there will be a live-action Pokémon movie in the works as well.
While most of the details for the new movie are still being kept tight-lipped, we do know of a few key details, the biggest being Reynolds starring in the movie as the voice of Pikachu. We also know that Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is set to direct the film, which reportedly started filming in mid-January.
Even though the new game has thrown us for a loop, we're still pretty excited about the newest Pokémon game and upcoming film.
