One thing that you may not have known about Green Day is that the drummer, Tré Cool, also fronts an Icelandic death metal band. Dead Mermaids have released a new EP titled You’re Welcome.

Dead Mermaids started back in 2014 with their self-titled EP. Under the alias “Bjorn Roarkson,” Cool is the band’s vocalist and drummer. The rest of the band is made up of lead guitarist Magnus “The Halibut” Magnusson, bassist Grimur “The Silver Fish” Grimsson and back up vocalist Njall “The Wolf” Njalsson.

You’re Welcome is composed of five tracks, including “Cop,” “Kill Eat Shit Repeat” and “My Fish.” Obviously, the band is a humorous take on Icelandic death metal. Regardless, we are here for it. You can listen to the full EP below.

In a 2014 interview with SJC Custom Drums, Cool explained how he managed to get involved with Dead Mermaids.

“Bjorn Roarkson, unfortunately, was harpooning a whale and the whale pulled him under and some walruses had their way with him, so he sort of indisposed at the moment,” Cool says of his character. “I’m sort of life-hacking Bjorn Roarkson right now and I’m going to become him.”

Recently, Green Day has been in the news for playing a multitude of their classic albums in full and posting their setlists on Instagram. In fact, Cool took to the gram to share the setlist of Dookie. Could an anniversary tour be in the works?

What do you think of Cool’s side project? Sound off in the comments below.
