Halsey defends New Zealand show comment as “banter” after fan backlash

Halsey recently came under fire for some comments she made while performing at Bay Dreams Festival in New Zealand. A video surfaced of Halsey saying what was construed as disrespectful comments towards Americans. The singer has since replied to the accusations.

Halsey’s new record Manic released two weeks from now on Jan. 17, 2020.

Fans widely applauded Halsey’s performance at Bay Dreams Festival. However, some comments she made drew the ire of many. While on stage, Halsey was heard saying what many believed insulting to the singer’s home country.

“You better show me why this is the best place in the world to perform ’cause right now you look like a bunch of fucking Americans,” Halsey said. Watch the clip below.

The internet quickly began accusing Halsey of being rude to her fans.

Well, Halsey wanted to put a stop to the anger real quick. Replying to the above tweet, Halsey addressed the situation.

not angry or insulting! it’s banter!!!!! the crowd at bay dreams was fucking epiccccc. one of the best ever. and my american crowds are notoriously mental too. it’s just jokes. i’d say the same thing to a crowd in, let’s say, scotland. “you look like a bunch of englishmen!” haha 

She relays that it was just crowd banter to get them really going and she would say the same to anyone about their rival of sorts.

More Halsey 

Halsey will return to Saturday Night Live for the third time on January 25th. Halsey is the musical guest and will attend alongside host Adam Driver. Driver has previously hosted two times.

The musical appearance by Halsey comes a week after the release of her third studio album Manic. 

Adam Driver wrapped up quite the year after numerous award nominations for Marriage Story and starring in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Halsey has had quite the year herself, which will only continue into 2020 with the release of Manic. She has already released five tracks on her upcoming album. The most recent being the emotionally moving “Finally // beautiful stranger”.
