iDKHOW merch guy allegedly steals Waterparks’ cash—UPDATED

UPDATED POST: Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 2:58 p.m. EST

Waterparks frontman Awsten Knight has chimed in on the matter, stating:

“I’m so happy criminals are so fucking stupid. Someone on our tour ‘allegedly’ tried to steal tens of thousands of dollars from us and we ‘caught’ the shit out of him. Fucking imbecile LOL enjoy ur ‘alleged’ felony. Also for the record, we have a solid safe system, homeboy ‘lie.’”

“Also thanks so much to the Hartford Police for their help. Tour is hard enough without people you trusted trying to steal your livelihood away. We’re not ‘officially’ allowed to comment on the person at this time, but fuck that ‘alleged’ guy.”

“Also for the record, that money was from the night before LOL. We don’t carry cash city to city like that because we’re not villains from Grand Theft Auto and we sure as hell don’t leave it laying around the bus in a fuckin’ box HAHA god why is this real?”

Weekes responded to Knight’s tweets with “Not to mention the fact that I will literally, physically mangle the next person who steals anywhere near me.”

Knight agreed with “I’d allegedly help allegedly crack some allegedly bones allegedly.”

I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME can’t catch a break. Last month, more than $10,000 in personal items and gear were stolen from frontman Dallon Weekes’ hotel room.

While that gear has since been returned, iDKHOW’s merch guy is now the suspect in another theft case.

iDKHOW are currently on the road with De’Wayne Jackson, NG and Super Whatevr as support for Waterparks’ Entertainment tour. The bands hit the Webster in Hartford, Connecticut, Sunday night.

WTNH News 8 reports an unnamed band’s merch guy (or “merchandise dealer”) was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing money from a band’s tour bus.

The suspect was later identified as David Chapman, 32, of Tempe, Arizona. He was arrested and charged with larceny and interfering with police.

iDKHOW confirmed to AP that he was selling their merch but is no longer employed by the band.

According to police, officers responded to the Webster around 1:15 a.m. Monday after the band reported $18,000 in cash was stolen. The money was kept inside a cardboard box and taken from their tour bus.

Police state the band member suspected Chapman was responsible after he began acting suspiciously when questioned prior to police being called.

Chapman initially denied knowing where the money was. A few hours later, the band called police with more questions, WTNH News 8 reports.

Police state the band began searching their trailer where they found the cardboard box wrapped inside Chapman’s sweater with other merch boxes. He once again denied being involved but later admitted to taking it once the band fired him and wouldn’t let him back on the bus.

WTNH News 8 also reports he told police he was “tired of the band members leaving money all over the bus and wanted to prove a point but was going to return the money later.”

iDKHOW just released their debut EP, 1981 Extended Play, Friday, and they’ll be on tour with Waterparks through December. Purchase information for both is available here.
