Machine Gun Kelly has been spending a bit of time each day working on covering riffs from a range of artists and the latest sees him taking on a classic Avril Lavigne track.

In his latest video, the rapper and soon to be pop-punk musician takes on the intro riff to “Sk8er Boi.”

MGK started things off in isolation by sharing a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Californication.”

From there, he went on to share a short but sweet cover of a Paramore classic in “Misery Business.” Beyond that, he’s taken on a cover of Nirvana‘s classic “Smells Like Teen Spirit,”  Juice WRLD‘s “Lucid Dreams” and tons of other songs.

Machine Gun Kelly has more of a connection to Avril than just playing her riffs though.

Back in Januray,  We The Kings vocalist/lyricist Travis Clark spoke about collaborating with other artists such as Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly, Simple Plan and State Champs. In that interview, he reveals how he got started working with the rapper and the connection that made between Avril Lavigne.

“My relationship with MGK came about through Warped Tour,” says Clark. “I would go up and play with him, and then he would come up and sing or play guitar with us. And it was just [a] really cool collaborative feel that started way before we ended up talking about writing together.”

He continues and reveals that Lavigne reached out to him after seeing photos of the two playing together. This led to a connection where MGK is collaborating with her for her next record.

“[With Avril], she was like, “Hey, I see that you post pictures with your buddy Machine Gun Kelly. Do you think you would want to write? And I was like, “Yeah!” So I texted him. I was like, “Yo, you want to work on a couple [of] songs with me and Avril for her record?” And he said, “Absolutely.” So that all parlayed and ended up snowballing into each other. I end up in really cool sessions that I just never thought I would ever really be a part of.”

Late last year, the rapper also shared a photo of the three of them together.
