It looks like McDonald’s all-day breakfast may disappear forever

It looks like you may not have 24-hour access to McDonald’s breakfast menu ever again.

In a new statement, the fast-food chain says its considering ending its all-day breakfast service for good.

McDonald’s suspended its all-day breakfast menu earlier this year amid the coronavirus pandemic. The move was in efforts to reduce its menu items for more speedy drive-thru service. Along with the all-day breakfast menu, McDonald’s also temporarily removed salads, grilled chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders.

Since these changes, McDonald’s has seen a vast improvement in the speed of drive-thru and customer service. Due to this, the fast-food chain doesn’t see too many positives about bringing the all-day breakfast menu back.

In a statement obtained by Food & Wine, the fast-food chain is still deciding the fate of its all-day breakfast menu. However, the company says that consumer demand could potentially sway the decision.

“We removed All-Day Breakfast from the menu to simplify operations in our kitchens, which we saw provided better speed of service and order accuracy,” the statement says. “As McDonald’s and franchisees evaluate if and how we bring All Day Breakfast back to our menus, we want to ensure these improvements will remain consistent for our customers. Any final decision will be made in partnership with our franchisees, based on consumer demand, and designed to drive the business while minimizing operational disruptions.”

McDonald’s first introduced its all-day breakfast menu back in 2015. The change allowed breakfast lovers the chance to enjoy the menu after the original 10:30 a.m. cut off time. Since then, however, a few changes have happened to McDonald’s breakfast menu over the years.

Last year, McDonald’s allowed franchise locations to eliminate breakfast items to help speed up service. It is believed by analysts that a wider variety of options ultimately leads to slower drive-thru times. As well, analysts suspect that the all-day breakfast menu results in fewer customers during the morning hours when those items are usually available.

Although the chain has eliminated various menu items amid the pandemic, it has also introduced some widely popular new foods. McDonald’s recently teamed up with Travis Scott for his own Cactus Jack Meal. The meal has become so popular that various locations are running out of ingredients. Due to the demand, the Travis Scott Meal can now only be ordered through McDonald’s app.

As well, McDonald’s recently introduced its new spicy chicken nuggets. The latest menu item is in efforts to compete with other fast-food chains who already have the item on their menus.

Many of McDonald’s customers have been missing the all-day breakfast over the past few months. It is likely that most won’t be lovin’ it if the all-day menu disappears for good.
