Metallica fans gather for huge street performance of "Sad But True"

Although Metallica are one of the world’s biggest heavy metal bands, a Russian flash mob group named Rock-n-Mob found a way to make the band’s massive sound even bigger.

The group organized around 250 musicians to perform Metallica’s 1991 hit “Sad But True” at a busy intersection in Moscow. While it’s difficult getting any number of musicians to play in time with each other, the performance is surprisingly cohesive.

Hundreds of singers, guitarists and drummers of all ages can be seen throughout the video performing the classic thrash jam. While some vocalists can be spotted using microphones, the entire crowd can be heard chanting along to the track.

Check out the video below to hear an even more enormous sounding performance than the band’s original recording.

This isn’t the first time a crowd have come together to play a communal version of a rock song though.

In 2015, roughly 1000 people in Cesena, Italy gathered to play Foo Fighters’ “Learn To Fly” in an attempt to convince Dave Grohl and co. to make a stop in their town.

Although Rock-n-Mob weren’t trying to gain anything from the performance, it’s still an impressive display of collaboration.

Keep your eyes peeled for more covers like this since the group aim to create more rock flash mobs.

In other Metallica news, the band recently announced their second annual Day Of Service. This May, the band will be heading out to community food banks, in the hopes that their fans across the country can get in on the volunteer efforts as well.

There’s a list of participating food banks on an official website that you can check out here. Anyone who registers to volunteer on May 22 will get a special All Within My Hands T-shirt emblazoned with the band’s non-profit organization. Walk-ins will not be accepted, so if you’re planning on helping out, you’re going to want to reserve your spot early.

In addition to their service day, the band will be heading out on a string of European dates, which you can check out here.
