Actor Nicolas Cage is showing his musical side with a angsty karaoke version of the classic Prince song “Purple Rain.”
It’s been reported that Cage recently split with his wife Erika Koike, right before his karaoke performance. Therefore, it’s been speculated that could be the reason for the rage-version of the track.
The National Treasure star has hit up a Los Angeles karaoke bar twice to perform his rendition of the track, complete with some rough vocals coming straight from his gut.
You can check out a clip of one of Cage’s performance below.
According to TMZ, Cage and Koike got married in Las Vegas and called it off after only four days. Koike is reportedly seeking spousal support.
In other news, did you know that Cage is super into heavy metal music? In fact, his son, Weston, was in a band called Eyes Of Noctum. The two bond over bands such as Darkthrone and Satyricon.
Also, let’s not forget that there’s a Japanese corn snack that has Cage’s whole face on it, which is one of the most amazing things we’ve ever seen.
As far as Prince news goes, there’s apparently a musical inspired by the late artist currently in the works.
However, the film won’t be a biopic. Sources state that they felt 1984’s Purple Rain, inspired by Prince’s own life, covered the biopic angle. Instead, the film is an original fictional narrative inspired by the music of Prince, similar to ABBA and Mamma Mia!
Variety reports that Prince’s estate has been wanting to do a movie like this for some time, ultimately settling on Universal Pictures for the studio.
