Slipknot new 2019, ariana grande

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root recently revealed what it’s taken him to be in his band, and paid a compliment to pop-singer Ariana Grande.

To be in a band as successful as his, there are things such as family and school that you may have to put off, and that’s something guitarist knows all too well.

In a recent interview with Joe, the musician lays out his thoughts behind the dedication to his craft and the sacrifices he’s made for the band.

“It’s a lot of work, a lot of sacrifice. It’s almost like you have two alternate realities that you live in. You have your homeworld and then your touring world,” Root says. “I’ve put off having a family because I knew that I was going to be gone on the road all the time so when I go home it’s just, like… me. That’s a hard thing for me to wrap my brain around and it’s a little bit difficult sometimes.”

He goes on to say he thinks it must feel be strange for his fellow bandmates when they have to leave their families to go on tour.

“Some of the other guys, Clown and Corey, they have children and wives and things like that and they go there and I’m sure for them that’s a weird transition to make because when we tour we don’t just tour for like a month or two and then we’re done,” he states. “We tour six, eight, maybe sometimes nine or ten months of the year. That’s a lot of time being away from home and over 20 years, I’m starting to realize at the age that I’m at now that it’s like ‘Wow, I’ve kind of given my entire life to this band. Willingly.’ I don’t regret it and I wouldn’t change a second of it. I’ve learned so much.

When later asked if he’s into any modern artists such as Billie Eilish, he goes on to say that even though he likes a lot of pop, it’s not something he really focuses on.

“I’m kind of jaded on it,” he remarks. “I feel like it’s all become… maybe it’s not genuine, but I could be totally 100% wrong about that. That’s my own fault for not diving in and getting deep into it.”

He also says that when he first heard Ariana Grande, he really enjoyed her music.

“One of the girls at our management company was listening to some Ariana Grande, and I didn’t know that that’s what she was listening to. I was like, ‘What is that? That’s awesome! That’s got, like, a vibe to it, you know?’ She told me what it was, and I was kind of mind-blown.”

“I’m sure there’s a lot of good, modern pop music out there, I’ll discover it when it’s time.”
