You returns to Netflix on Dec. 26 for the series’ second installment. After following the captivating first season, we knew that season 2 would keep us on the edge of our seats. Following a first look at the cast in November, the debut teaser trailer for the sophomore season has us questioning everything we know about You and Penn Badgley’s character.
Based on the novels by Caroline Kepnes, the premiere season followed Joe Goldberg, a soft-spoken bookstore owner portrayed by Badgley, as he fell head over heels for Beck after meeting her in his New York City store. Desperate to keep her attention from her friends and former hookup buddy, Goldberg went to deadly lengths to ensure that he had Beck to himself.
The season 2 trailer begins with Goldberg walking into a coffee shop. He internally says to himself, “Love has taken me to some pretty dark places, but Los Angeles has got to be as dark as it gets.”
As he scans the coffee shop, he comments on the facades that LA residents put on for their social media profiles to make it seem as if they’re “on top of the world.” He continues to internally insult the other patrons before the barista asks, “Can I get a name for the order?” “Yeah, I’m Will,” Goldberg replies.
We’re not sure about you, but we’re left with plenty of unanswered questions. How is Badgley going to reinvent his character in LA after Beck’s death? Has he relocated to LA permanently? If the series follows along with Kepnes’ Hidden Bodies, the second novel to the series, then we may already have some answers, but we’re sure there will still be plenty of surprises in store.

More on You
Badgely revealed You will have more liberty to allow swearing now but not too much will change. “There are certain liberties we’re now able to take, but it’s very much the same show,” says Badgley.
Badgley also says Beck’s death will have an impact on Joe as he struggles to realize she’s actually dead.
“There’s a revisitation of that with Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the hard reality of what he did to her,” Badgley told ET. “In his mind, she’s not even dead. In his mind, everyone’s still alive because the pain that he feels he suffered at their hand is very much still alive.”
Joe will also have a new love interest to obsess over in season 2.
Here’s how ET describes the character Love Quinn who will be portrayed by Victoria Pedretti.
“An aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store. Love is uninterested in the world of social media, branding, and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She is also tending to a deep grief, and when she meets Joe Goldberg, she senses a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.”
Returning characters showing up include Joe’s ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers), Paco (Luca Padovan), bookstore clerk Ethan (Zach Cherry), Paco’s mother Claudia (Victoria Cartagena), Beck’s best friends Lynn (Nicole King) and Annika (Kathryn Gallagher), Beck’s classmate Blythe (Hari Nef), and Peach’s family.
New cast members include James Scully, Jenna Ortega, Charlie Barnett, Carmela Zumbado, Robin Lord-Taylor, and more.
Check out Netflix’s full description of the upcoming season below.
“When we last saw Joe, his heart was tragically broken and his past just caught up with him in the form of long-lost ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers)—a woman now hell-bent on teaching him a lesson. Season 2 finds him on the run from Candace—leaving New York City for his own personal hell: Los Angeles. He’s fresh out of an intense relationship that ended in murder. The last thing he expects is to meet an incredible new woman, but he’s falling in love again—with a woman named Love (Victoria Pedretti). Is history repeating? Or will this time be the real thing? Joe’s just crazy enough to risk finding out.”
