See Mayday Parade fear the unknown in powerful “I Can Only Hope” video
Last month, Mayday Parade finally released their highly-anticipated new EP Out Of Here.
Now, the band are back with a powerful new video for “I Can Only Hope,” directed by longtime collaborator Guadalupe Bustos.

“I Can Only Hope” joins “First Train” and “Lighten Up Kid” on Mayday Parade’s new EP Out Of Here. The song marks one of the band’s most emotional to date and it was heavily inspired by a personal experience in drummer Jake Bundrick‘s life.
“’I Can Only Hope,’ simply put, is about my father,” he says. “He recently had some medical issues in Georgia and being that I live in California, I felt so far away. The song is about being terrified. It’s about that uncertainty whether someone will pull through something so difficult. It’s about the unknown that follows all of it and never forgetting the sounds or senses of the moment when you received the news.”
In the ominous new video, the band members can be seen running away from the fear behind them. As they try to avoid the difficult feelings and situations that threaten to engulf them, they soon realize that they must face fear head-on as they come to a stand-still in defeat.

The “I Can Only Hope” video opens with a powerful H.P. Lovecraft quote that truly encapsulates both the song’s meaning and video’s message.
“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.”
Mayday Parade’s new EP Out Of Here was born out of their last recording sessions together before the coronavirus pandemic hit in March. All three songs were produced by Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount.
Along with releasing their powerful video for “I Can Only Hope,” Mayday Parade have another special treat on the way. On Dec. 5, the band will be performing Anywhere But Here in full for a new virtual show. The livestream event is helping to bring their Anywhere But Here 10-year anniversary concert to fans who missed out on the tour last year.
