Sloppy Jane covers My Chemical Romance’s “Cancer”

Sloppy Jane has released a gripping cover of My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade cut “Cancer.”

It marks her first new music since 2021’s Madison, and Haley Dahl says, “My Chemical Romance is my biggest influence as far as being an insane band with an incredible amount of world-building. I’ve loved them since I was a kid. I started playing this song live while opening for other bands on the Madison cycle, as kind of an access point. I chose ‘Cancer’ because it’s piano- and strings-driven, and its message is ‘I love you, and now I will die,’ which is basically what I’m saying on every single song on Madison. I don’t like joke-y covers — I love the song and thought it would fit in with mine.”

The “Cancer” cover is out via Saddest Factory Records, the label imprint of Dahl’s one-time Sloppy Jane bandmate Phoebe Bridgers. Dahl will open for boygenius tonight (Oct. 31) at Hollywood Bowl, which is also with 100 gecs.

After the show with boygenius, Sloppy Jane will be on tour supporting Pussy Riot and Deap Vally, including an NYC show at Le Poisson Rouge on Feb. 17 with Deap Vally. See all dates here.
