According to Tech Crunch, reports of Spotify testing the app came rolling in the first week of November. Today, Spotify announced the new app on their blog.

Acknowledging the “importance of having music on the go,” Spotify explains the app will have “an improved experience with better control.” There will also be a seamless way to connect to speakers and devices.

With the Apple Watch app, users will be able to hit play, pause and skip without taking their phone out. The app will also allow users to rewind podcasts by 15 seconds and tap the heart to save it to your collection.

The Apple Watch also embraces Spotify Connect, which the streaming service describes as allowing users to listen on speakers and TVs by using the app as a remote.

There will also be the ability to listen to music and podcasts offline. You can see an example of the new app below.

The new app will roll out over the next few days this week. The streaming site suggests Apple users check that they have the latest version (v.8.4.79). They also mention to “look out for more updates coming soon.”

The “What‘s New” section of the app in the App Store states, “This release includes the first version of our Apple Watch app.”

This isn’t the first change Spotify has made over the past few months as they finally opened up their playlist submission feature.

The streaming service now lets artists send music they want to be considered for official playlists.

Spotify started testing the playlist submission feature a few months ago, but now it’s officially available for all artists.

The tool lets artists and labels share new music which they think should be on a playlist with Spotify’s editorial team.
